What is SCIM and why use it?

System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) is a standardized protocol that automates the exchange of user identity information between identity providers and applications.

Benefits of deprovisioning via SCIM:

  • Automated access control: When employees leave your organization, their account in Mentorloop is automatically removed from the program.
  • Security compliance: Helps maintain regulatory compliance by ensuring timely removal of accounts.
  • Reduced administrative overhead: Eliminates manual user removal processes.

Prerequisites

Before setting up SCIM integration with Mentorloop, ensure you have:

  1. Administrator access to your identity provider (e.g. Microsoft Entra ID, Okta)
  2. Administrator access to your Mentorloop account
  3. Mentorloop SSO is already configured with your identity provider
  4. SCIM endpoint and token (provided by Mentorloop team)

What happens when a user is deprovisioned?

When a user is deprovisioned through SCIM, the following actions occur automatically in Mentorloop:

  1. User is marked as “removed” in Mentorloop for all programs they are in
  2. User will no longer be able to access Mentorloop through that account
  3. Any mentor/mentee relationships associated with the user archived
  4. Historical data related to the user is preserved for reporting purposes
