How do I upload a file?

You can share files with your mentoring partner directly inside your Loop. All shared files are confidential, only the members of your Loop can see them.

You choose how each file is shared

When uploading, you'll be asked: Share in chat and send notification? Select Yes to post the file in your Loop chat and notify your partner by email and in-app. Select No to save it quietly to the Files tab only, no chat post, no notification sent.

What types of files can I share in my Loop?

File size limit: 10 MB maximum per file.

Accepted file types:

  • Images — any format (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, etc.)
  • Video — any format
  • Audio — any format
  • Documents — PDF, Word (.doc/.docx), Excel (.xls/.xlsx), PowerPoint (.ppt/.pptx), RTF, Visio
  • Open formats — ODT, ODS, ODP (LibreOffice/OpenDocument)
  • Text — plain text (.txt), CSV, Markdown
  • Other — JSON

Files outside this list are blocked and the upload will fail.

Where can I upload files from?

You can upload from your local device or Google Drive. You can also drag and drop files directly into the file picker.

How do I share a file in my Loop?

Head to your Loop. There are three places you can start an upload from:

Loop page

Scroll to the Files section on the Loop page and click + Upload new. The "Upload a file" dialog will open:

  1. Click Select file to choose a file from your device or Google Drive (you can also drag and drop).
  2. Add a description in the Description field, this is required before you can save.
  3. Under Share in chat and send notification? select Yes or No.
  4. Click Save.

Files tab

Click the Files tab at the top of your Loop, then select + New in the top right corner. The same "Upload a file" dialog will open. All previously shared files are also listed here.

Loop chat

In the Loop chat, click the + button at the bottom of the conversation, then select Share a file from the menu. The same "Upload a file" dialog will open.

What's the difference between sharing in chat and saving to Files?

The "Upload a file" dialog includes the prompt: Share in chat and send notification?

  • Yes (default) — the file is posted in your Loop chat and your partner receives a notification in the app and by email.
  • No — the file is saved quietly to the Files tab only. Nothing appears in chat and no notification is sent.

Either way, the file is stored securely and both Loop members can access it at any time from the Files tab.

What should I do if my file won't upload?

If you're having trouble, try these steps:

  1. If you're on your organisation's network, try switching to a personal Wi-Fi or mobile connection, corporate firewalls can sometimes block file uploads.
  2. Contact your internal IT department to check whether the upload is being blocked.
  3. Reach out to Mentorloop support at support@mentorloop.com for further assistance.
