Accessing closed loops

There are two ways a loop can become inactive: it can be paused or closed. This article explains what each means, what you'll see, and what to do next.

Paused loops - your participation is on hold

If your Program Coordinator has temporarily paused your participation, you'll see a "Welcome back!" screen the next time you log in to Mentorloop. This means your place in the program has been held for you, nothing has been lost.

While your participation is paused:

  • Your existing loops are paused, you won't be able to send new messages or schedule meetings until you're back in the program.
  • You won't appear in matching and won't receive new match suggestions.
  • Your profile and your full loop history are kept exactly as they were.

When you're ready to continue, click Confirm and rejoin. You'll be asked to quickly review your profile to make sure your details are up to date, and then you'll be back in the program.

Not quite ready? That's fine, you can close the screen and come back whenever you are. The Welcome back screen will be there waiting for you next time you log in.

Think this happened by mistake?

The Welcome back screen includes your Program Coordinator's contact details. Reach out to them directly and they'll be able to help.

Closed loops - read-only

If your loop has been closed, either by you, your mentoring partner, or your Program Coordinator, you can still view the full conversation history, but you won't be able to send new messages or schedule meetings. This is what we call a read-only loop.

A loop might be closed because a program cohort has ended, your mentoring partner has left the program, or a natural point in the relationship has been reached. Your conversation and history remain accessible to you at any time.

What to do if a loop was closed unexpectedly

If your loop was closed unexpectedly, we understand this can be confusing or frustrating. There's likely a good explanation, your mentor or mentee may have had something come up, or the program may have moved into a new phase. Here's what you can do to get your mentoring experience back on track:

  1. Share your feedback via the closed-loop survey that will be sent to you.
  2. Message your Program Coordinator to let them know what's happened, or to ask for help finding a new match.
  3. If your program has Self Match enabled, use the Find a match page to request a new mentor or mentee yourself.
