A great mentee takes ownership of their mentoring relationship by setting clear goals, preparing for meetings, and staying open to feedback. Your mentor has committed their time and experience to support your growth, making the most of that investment starts with being proactive, responsive, and engaged in Mentorloop.

What is my role as a mentee? 🧭

Your mentor has made a commitment to your future, offering their time and energy. As a mentee, you are the driver of the relationship, it's your job to set the agenda, come prepared, and follow through on actions between sessions. Taking these steps doesn't just help your mentor; it puts you in the best position to get real value from mentoring.

How do I become a great mentee on Mentorloop? 🌱

We encourage all mentees to complete the Mentor and Mentee Training Course on the Mentorloop Academy →. Whether you're just starting out or looking to strengthen your existing skills, this self-paced course provides practical tools and insights for building a successful mentoring relationship.

The course covers:

  • What your role is as the mentee
  • Habits of effective mentees
  • How to use the Mentorloop tools to put these into practice

We recommend going through the modules in order, but feel free to explore based on your specific needs.

What are the key habits of a great mentee? ✅

  • Set clear goals — Use Mentorloop's goal-setting feature to define what you want to achieve. Share your goals with your mentor so your sessions have clear direction.
  • Be open about your needs — Give your mentor a clear picture of where you need support, along with your expectations and aspirations.
  • Prepare an agenda for meetings — Your mentor can't give meaningful insight if the purpose of your catch-up isn't clear. Use Mentorloop's meeting tools to schedule and prepare.
  • Own your learning journey — Set yourself tasks, explore resources, and follow up on anything your mentor suggests.
  • Be available and responsive — Share your availability and take the lead on scheduling. Use the Mentorloop chat to stay connected between meetings.
  • Stay open to feedback — Constructive feedback from your mentor is there to help you grow. Leave your ego at the door.
  • Develop trust — Your mentor is a trusted advisor. Don't ask for a job or other overreaching favours.
  • Learn and have fun — This should be an engaging and enriching experience, not a chore.
