What is Manual Match on Mentorloop?
Manual Match is a matching method on Mentorloop where the Program Coordinator drives every match — selecting participants, comparing profiles, and creating connections themselves. It gives coordinators full visibility and control over who gets paired with whom.
What matching types are available on Mentorloop?
Manual Match is one of three matching types available on the platform:
| Matching Type | How it works | Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Match | Algorithm-driven, automated matching | Enterprise plans only |
| Manual Match | Driven by the Program Coordinator | All plans |
| Self Match | Participant-driven matching | All plans (optional) |
Watch "Matching" in the Academy, for a deep dive on all match types.
What is Manual Match and how does it work?
Manual Match gives Program Coordinators complete control over the matching process. From the Loops page, you can view participant profiles, filter by shared attributes, and create matches yourself — without relying on an algorithm or participant input.
To get started, go to Loops in the left sidebar, click Create, and select your match type.
What types of matches can you create manually?
There are two types of manual matches:
- 1:1 Loop — A mentoring relationship between one mentor and one mentee.
- Group Loop — A discussion group with multiple mentors and/or mentees, with no limit on group size.
A Loop is the active connection between a matched pair or group, where participants can communicate and progress through their mentoring relationship.
How do you create a 1:1 Loop?
-
Start from the Loops page. The default view shows participants with no existing Loops. To see all participants (matched and unmatched), remove the pre-set filters. Keep the availability filter on to avoid matching participants who have marked themselves as unavailable.
-
Select a participant. Find them by browsing the list or searching by name. Their profile will open on screen.
-
Filter for compatible matches. Click on the profile attributes you want to match on — these become active filters at the top of the screen, narrowing the list to participants who meet those criteria.
- Compare profiles side by side. Click any potential match to view both profiles together. Shared attributes are highlighted in red, making it easy to spot compatibility.
-
Create the Loop or save a draft. When you're ready, click Create — or save a draft to revisit before confirming.
What happens after a Manual Match is created?
When a Loop is created, both participants are automatically sent a match notification email introducing them to their new partner. You can customise the default subject line and message body in your Program Settings.
What does a loop look like for Participants?
A loop is where mentors and mentees communicate, document, set meetings, set goals, and share progress.
